I have to admit, since I have three boys very close in age, I do not spend as much time with my oldest son. It is a fine balance to spend quality time with each child and at this point in life, the younger two are very demanding. I have different expectations of my oldest, he needs to be more independant and responsible. It is a lot for a six year old. At times he balks, but for the most part, he has gotten used to his new role as big brother. Most of the time I can rely on him and he goes about his business without a great deal of assistance. So, tonight when he decided he wanted to go for a run, I was more than happy to take him out for a jog in the snow. Partly because it was a great opportunity to spend some time together, but also I want to introduce him to something I enjoy.
We set out in the cold dark night all dressed up and I didn't have high expectations. I wanted to keep it fun so that he might want to do this with my one day again. We jogged a little and walked a little and my little boy talked the entire time.
What a wonderful way to spend time with my son.
I can't wait until he askes to go for a run again!
